CHENNAI: Two more child welfare committees will be constituted in Chennai to deal with the cases relating to children and the government will spend Rs 21.25 lakh per year for this purpose, announced V Saroja, Minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme in the Assembly on Wednesday.

One child welfare committee (CWC) has already been functioning in Chennai district but it is loaded with work as cases keep surging. “Taking into consideration the welfare of children who need care and protection and to expedite disposal of cases, two new CWCs will be constituted in Chennai,” she told the House while making the announcements after a debate on the demand for grants. Saroja added, “An amount of `21.25 lakh will be earmarked as additional fund allocation per year.”
