CHENNAI: Housing secretary S Krishnan on Thursday defended Chennai Metro fares. He said the main aim was to encourage bike and car users to shift to public transport system, and not the bus users. Speaking at the Greenco Summit 2018, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Krishnan said that the purpose of Chennai Metro is to shift the ones using cars and bikes to metro and hence the fares, he says, are justified.

Arun Kumar Mehta, additional secretary, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, at the inaugural session said Indian industry is progressing and transitioning towards greener manufacturing. “GreenCo rating is one of the voluntary initiatives to achieve India’s target on climate change. These initiatives indicate Indian industry’s conscious intent to march towards sustainability and establish itself as a global leader in promoting low carbon economy,” he added.

Jamshyd N Godrej, Chairman, CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, called on the need and importance of Indian industry to play a deeper and wider role in addressing ecological issues
and concerns.
