Admissions now open at Sankalp

The Open School caters mainly to Children with Specific Learning Disabilities.

CHENNAI : Established in 1999, the Sankalp Trust is managed by seven trustees and three directors. It runs two schools, Sankalp — The Open School at Shenoy Nagar, and Sankalp – The Learning Centre and Special Needs School at Kollapancherri. Sankalp has been ranked as the number one school in India for 2022-2023 in the Special Schools category by Education World.

The Open School caters mainly to Children with Specific Learning Disabilities. Currently it has a strength of 110 students. The students are trained to appear for the National Institute Of Open Schooling (NIOS) examinations at the Secondary and Senior Secondary Levels. They write their examinations over a period of two years.

The subjects taught include English, Home Science, Business Studies, Painting, Baking and Confectionery, Data Entry Operations and at the Senior Secondary Level-Mass Communication. 

For the students who face academic challenges, The Open School offers Vocational Skills Training in Data Entry Operations, Desk Top Publishing, Binding and Lamination, Weaving, Jewelry making and Cooking. 
The curriculum has been framed by a team of Special Educators and the textbooks designed with a lot of visuals, graphic organisers and plenty of exercises for students from the Primary level to Class 8.

Sankalp is starting a Diploma in Special Education- D.Ed Spl.Ed (IDD) course in Autism, Learning Disability and Intellectual Disability approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, with an aim of building a cadre of highly trained specialised educators. The course will commence in July 2023.
