CHENNAI: A 23-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after fingerprint evidence helped the police crack a case of burglary at a woman’s house in Pulianthope, from where Rs 46,000 was stolen on August 19. According to the Basin Bridge police, the accused, Dineshkumar of Kosapet, an auto driver, was in a relationship with the woman’s daughter.
The complainant, Selvi (38), runs a tiffin stall near Periamet. She returned home around 1 am after winding up her business on Wednesday and found the bureau lock broken and cash missing. During the investigation, the forensic department collected samples from the house. One of the samples matched with the fingerprints of a person involved in a 2023 criminal case, leading the police to Dineshkumar, sources said.
Police said the accused had been in a relationship with Selvi’s daughter for the past six years. He allegedly visited her on the night of the burglary, realised no one was home, used a screwdriver to enter the house and stole the cash. The police recovered an auto-rickshaw from him, and he was later remanded to judicial custody.
