12-year-old Delhi girl abducted, sold 10 times in 10 years

A minor girl from Delhi was sold ten times in villages of Haryana and Punjab in last ten years.

NEW DELHI: In a horrific incident, a minor girl from the national capital Delhi was sold ten times in villages of Haryana and Punjab in last ten years and subsequently sexually assaulted. After a month long investigation, Delhi police team has arrested eight accused for selling a minor girl ten times over a period of ten years for marriage.

“The arrested accused, included the couple -- Ranju and her husband Shyam Sunder -- who had kidnapped her when she was 12 year old girl when was going to meet her sister at Janta Colony on July 2, 2006, and taken her to Ambala where they sold her to another woman Babli for Rs 12,000,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police  AK Singla.

Victim returned home last month and reported regarding the incident to the police.  She was abducted at the age of 12 from north east parts of Delhi by a couple and was sold in Ambala for 12,000 for the first time.

In the next ten years the girl was sold 9 times to different persons and raped by many men and had two children out of a wedlock with a man thrice her age and widowed after which she was thrown out of her husband's home in Sangruru in Punjab, said the officer.

After the return of the girl as an adult after ten years, on July 25 this year, and meeting her mother Anwari and sister Shanno, local police took the matter for investigation and formed a Special Investigation Team.

During the course of investigation the victim was also medically examined and counseled by non government organization representatives. Her statement was recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.

The SIT conducted raids in various districts of Punjab and Haryana including Mansa, Bhatida, Patiala, Sangrur, Ambala  and Kurukshetra and busted a notorious gang of human trafficking, he said.

The arrested accused included Babli, who was kingpin of the gang from Kurukshetra, tout Sarup Chand (Patiala), Partap Singh from Sangrur who bought and sold the girl, Jagshir Singh (Sangrur) who married the minor girl and then sold her, Makhhan Singh (Sangrur) who mediated in marriage of the girl with a truck driver thrice her age with who she bore two sons, and Birender Singh (Mansa) nephew of the truck driver who raped the girl.

Arrest of Babli also led to saving of two minor girls, kidnapped from Jaunpur in UP and Muzzafarnagar in Bihar, who were kept in a rented room in Kurukshetra, added the officer.

The police has informed the counterparts in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for further probe in the two minor girls rescued from the kingpin.
