Man dies while cleaning sewer at Delhi hospital

NEW DELHI: Once again a sanitation worker sacrificed his life while cleaning a sewage in Delhi on Sunday. The incident took place in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, initial investigation has revealed that apart from the deceased, three people have fainted after inhaling toxic gases and later admitted to the hospital. 

“We got a call from the hospital around 12.30 pm that four people have fainted while cleaning sewage near to gate number 2 of LNJP hospital. Deceased has been identified as Rishipal who was cleaning the sewage on the behalf of a private contractor appointed by the Public Works Department of Delhi government,” Delhi police said.

Central district police has said that a case has been lodged for death due to negligence and body has been sent to postmortem.

In last 40 days 10 workers have sacrificed their lives while cleaning the sewage.

20th August: 1 person died while cleaning sewage in LNJP hospital

12th  August: 2 brothers died of suffocation while cleaning a septic pit at a mall in Shahdara in east Delhi.

6th August: 3 persons died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a sewer in Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi.

15th July: 4 persons died after inhaling poisonous gases as they entered a water harvesting tank in Ghitorni in south Delhi.
