ISIS suspect fooled security agencies twice, sucessfully departed to Turkey on fake documents

Shahjahan Velluva, a native of Kannur in Kerala, was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police after US intelligence agency CIA informed it about his arrival.

NEW DELHI: In a major security lapse, a Kerala resident who was under scanner of intelligence agencies and anti-terror wing of Delhi Police special cell, managed to fool Immigration Bureau which comes under Intelligence Bureau (IB) twice. A 32 year-old ISIS suspect identified as Shahjahan Velluva Kandy traveled to Turkey on fake documents and passport twice but agencies got to know only after his departure. Accused who was arrested by Special Cell Delhi police last week was noticed by Turkey airport security agencies who sent him back to Delhi as he had fake travel document. 32 year-old ISIS suspect Shahjahan Velluva Kandy’s wife is also under scanner as she also traveled with her to Turkey in last year and deported back this year.

“When Velluva came back from Turkey in February this year, we were keeping an eye on him but suddenly he disappeared. We, through our sources got to know that he has managed to leave Turkey again. We shared the information with Intelligence agency and got to know that he has again traveled to Turkey on Fake document and caught there. He was deported on 1st of July and arrested,” DCP Special cell PS Kushwah said. Accused was first traveled to Turkey along with his wife in June last year and deported on February this year. Again he traveled to Turkey this year and left from India in March, cops claimed.

“It is a lapse from the part of Immigration Bureau that how a person traveled twice to Turkey on fake documents. Velluva was already under scanner of Intelligence agency when he traveled to Turkey on fake passport and Visa,” a senior Delhi police official said.

According to the sources, Immigration Bureau is also planning to probe that how a ISIS suspect managed to fool the Bureau twice when he was under scanner. “There must be some delay in passing the information to Immigration Bureau, we are internally checking the case that how he managed to flee from India twice on fake passport,” Immigration Bureau official said on the condition of anonymity. “In his document he has given two different addresses and his age is also 35 years. By profession he claims that he is a jute manufacturer,” official added. “Velluva was trying to cross border to get entry in Syria, he is radicalized. We have found enough material from his mobile. To remain untraced, he was using voice call applications,” special cell official said.
