NEW DELHI: A college at Delhi University which is grabbing the headlines lately is once again embroiled in yet another controversy. Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC) on Wednesday cancelled a program in which BJP leader and MP Subramanian Swamy was scheduled to speak.

Invited by the Journalism department of the DCAC for a panel discussion, Swamy was supposed to speak about ‘Journalism on Trial?’ on Thursday, but due to an unauthorised invitation to the BJP leader the event stands cancelled, college authorities informed.

“The invite to Swamy was not signed by me, neither I was kept in loop. The college authorities did not extend any invite to Swamy. The invitation was given by students and no permission was taken from me to hold such an event” Rajiv Chopra told Express.

The department as part of its annual fest ‘Scoop’ invited Swamy and also put up posters across the South Campus, Delhi University.

Earlier cancellation of event started with Umar Khalid and Shela Rashid after which a series of violent protest and clashes broke out at the university between RSS-backed ABVP and the CPI (ML)-affiliated AISA.

The college had last week postponed an event where Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav was scheduled to address.
