Delhi police arrested 18 people for running IPL betting racket, recovered 96 mobile phones

NEW DELHI:  In last 72 hours Delhi police in three different raids have arrested 18 people allegedly running IPL betting racket from Delhi.

Raids have been conducted by Crime branch, East and north-west districts. In one raid conducted in east Delhi, cops have recovered 77 mobile phones which were used for betting on a live match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant. On the other side, in another raid conducted by Crime Branch in a five star hotel of outer Delhi, sleuths have recovered 10 mobile phones, 3 laptops and three books allegedly having details of betting.

“Crime Branch was receiving inputs that Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender along with their associates are involved in running IPL betting racket. On Sunday, a specific input was received that Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender and their associates will be carrying their betting racket from 5 Star Hotel of North West,” DCP crime, Madhur Verma said. He further added, “A raid was conducted at Crown Plaza, Rithala, Rohini and nine persons namely Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender Kumar, Nitin Harjani, Nikhil Goswami, Amit Kumar Dhingra, Sumit Sharma, Rajesh Jain and Naveen Kumar were arrested and mobile phones, laptops were recovered.”

Similarly, in yet another raids conducted in North west Delhi by local police and arrested 7 people. “Six bookies, who were allegedly found gambling on the spot and the manager of the restaurant have been arrested,” DCP north-west, Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said. Cops recovered eight mobile phones, one TV Set, a register containing details of the IPL match betting and DVRs of CCTV cameras have been seized from the spot, he said. Accused have been identified as Anuj Sharma, Sahil Gupta, Sanchit Mittal, Rishal Normal, Ashutosh, and Sushant Sharma.

Third raid was conducted on Monday in East Delhi and cops recovered 77 mobile phones. According to DCP east after getting a tip off of betting in IPL when cops reached the spot found calculators, diaries etc from two persons. “On reaching the suspected house, two men were found sitting on the ground of their rented flat with a whole setup of 77 mobiles, calculator, diaries, a speaker/microphone system and were carrying out the betting for the ongoing IPL final cricket match ,” Omvir Singh, DCP east said.
