NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old Nigerian man, allegedly kidnapped on Thursday over some business dispute, was rescued and three Nigerians were arrested in this connection, the police said today.

The wife of James Grant yesterday filed a complaint at Mandawali police station that her husband has been kidnapped, they said.

In her complaint, Grant's wife, a native of West Bengal, said her husband went out of the house on Thursday to get drinking water but did not return and was also not answering her phone calls, the police said.

Yesterday, she received a phone call from her Grant's cell phone and was told to arrange Rs 25 lakh for the release of her kidnapped husband, the woman told the police.

The caller had also threatened to kill her husband if she informed the police about it, a police official said, adding the accused had also contacted the woman's parents in West Bengal and threatened them.

After analysing the phone calls, the police told the woman to inform the accused that the money has been arranged and she would deliver the money.

She was told to reach Devli Road at Neb Sarai in south Delhi in a taxi alone and wait for further instructions. A taxi was arranged and an armed police personnel was the driver, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Omvir Singh said.

When the taxi was close to Devli Road, she was asked to come near Cambridge School in the area. Upon reaching there, three Nigerians surrounded the taxi and tried to take the money from her, the officer said.

Immediately, a police team surrounded the accused and nabbed them. They were identified as Kenneth Uchenna (39), Cliff Osa (25) and Solomun (40), the DCP said.

During interrogation, Uchenna revealed that he had some business dispute with Grant and had kidnapped him to pressure his wife pay his debt and also get extra money, the police said.

The accused did not have valid passports and visas, they said.
