NEW DELHI: Delhi’s 170 projects mainly related to beautification, construction and repair work are likely to be completed soon as Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has approved a PWD proposal to delegate financial powers to the department's engineering officers. The project related to beautification of roads, repair of Delhi’s major flyovers, construction in schools etc have already crossed their deadlines as there is a delay in releasing funds.
According to the proposal which was approved by the LG Anil Baijal, engineer-in-chief, who had no financial powers, can now take a call on costing between Rs 4 crore to Rs 5 crore. Similarly, superintendent engineer can execute the department's works costing between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 1 crore and principal chief engineer can execute works that cost between Rs 2 crore and Rs 4 crore.
“There are almost 23 big projects which have not seen any work due to lack of funds. These projects were supposed to complete in 4-6 months but still they are waiting for funds clearance,” a PWD official said.
“Projects like Streetscaping and beautification of a road was sanctioned in September 2016 and should have completed by December 2016. But, still work is under progress due to late release of funds. Similarly, work related to remedial measures of noise and vibration at the flyover of Ber Sarai was expected to be completed by 2013, but due to lack of funds and other clearance issue the work is still pending. Now, after the approval of the proposal, it is expected that work would be completed by January,” official added. Earlier, PWD engineers had no financial powers and chief engineer and the secretary had powers to allocate funds only related to maintenance of roads, installation of road signs etc.
