NEW DELHI: As she sat on a solitary protest on Saturday against the brutal rape and murder of the veterinary doctor in the outskirts of Hyderabad, Anu Dubey alleged that she was forcibly removed from the spot and detained by police personal of the Parliament Street Police Station. Holding a placard with the slogan ‘Why I can’t feel safe in my own Bharat?’, Dubey, in her mid-20s, sat on the pavement near gate number 2-3 of the Parliament House complex, police said.
Speaking to the media, Dubey was seen sobbing as she narrated her ordeal. She said she was forced inside the police station, beaten up and asked to give in writing that she won’t protest at the spot again. She said head constables Kuldip and Manju and one more officer misbehaved with her, and threatened her.
“I am protesting because I don’t want to be the one burnt to death tomorrow. In every 20 minutes, a woman is raped. I have never protested like this. But after hearing of yesterday’s incident, I couldn’t sleep. I am a common citizen, every girl has a right to go out safely,” Dubey said.
The chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the deputy commissioner of police in the matter. “While the entire nation is angry over the painful rape in Hyderabad and a student is trying to raise her voice and question the political leaders, what is wrong in it? Instead, the girl is dragged to the police station,” Maliwal tweeted.

She had scratch marks on her body and blood was also coming out from her wounds, DCW said in its notice. Dubey submitted a complaint in this regard to the Parliament Street Police Station. The Delhi Police denied the allegations of brutality and said that a senior woman police officer will look into the matter.
“The woman was protesting in a high security zone near Parliament gate. She was persuaded to do any such protest at Jantar Mantar, but she became adamant. She was removed from the area by women police personnel and was released after due questioning,” a senior officer said.
