NEW DELHI:  The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday issued summons to DCP (New Delhi) Pranav Tayal for failing to arrest the accused in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Tayal has been asked him to appear before the commission on May 12.

“It is very unfortunate that no accused in the matter has been arrested till date. The accused should be arrested immediately and statements of survivors should be registered. Also, action should be taken against concerned police officers for failing to record their statement under 164 CrPC,” the DCW said while referring to the allegations made against Singh by the women wrestlers.

India’s top wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and double World Championships medallist Vinesh Phogat have been protesting at Jantar Mantar demanding action against Singh.

The DCW had received a complaint regarding the sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
The wrestlers had submitted a complaint at Connaught Place police station on April 21. However, the FIR was lodged only on April 28, that too after the wrestlers approached the Supreme Court.
