NEW DELHI: When Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officials declared that the worst performers for this year were the government schools, apparently they forgot Delhi. The city government on Friday said that their schools have yet again delivered a spectacular performance in Class XII exams. The government schools in Delhi achieved a pass percentage of 91.59%, whereas the overall result for CBSE Class XII across the country was 87.33%.
Similarly in Class X results, Delhi government schools secured an impressive 85.84% result, 4.57% higher than the previous year. In the last academic session, the exams were conducted in two parts and the syllabus was split into two terms as a one-time measure in view of the pandemic.
“This year, the board resumed the annual one-term practice like pre-pandemic years wherein students had to give exams of the entire syllabus at once,” a senior board official said. “Therefore, a valid comparison can only be drawn with pre-pandemic years and the pass percentage has increased from pre-pandemic year 2019,” the official said.
In Class 10, as many as 1.95 lakh candidates have scored above 90% while 44,297 scored above 95%. Among those who scored above 90%, 278 are from the Children with Special Needs (CSWN) category while 58 students of that group scored above 95%.
Congratulating the students, parents, and teachers, Education Minister Atishi said, “Once again, Delhi government schools have proved that they are the best across the country. This is a testament to the hard work of our teachers and students. It is a moment of pride that our schools have performed exceptionally well. Not only that, our schools have surpassed private schools and delivered a better performance than them as well.”
The CBSE too suggests that the Delhi Region has performed way better than the national average result. As many as 92.22% of students have passed from the Delhi Region and the national pass percentage is 87.33%. The Delhi Education Minister said for the first time in the history of the Directorate of Education, over 2 lakh students from Delhi government schools appeared for the 12th board exams, which is more than 72% higher than in the previous year. This year, a total of 2,27,020 students from Delhi government schools had appeared for the 12th board exams.
