NEW DELHI: Twenty trains bound for the national capital were delayed on Monday due to inclement weather conditions in the city, which recorded a minimum temperature of 5.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 95%. The IMD has forecast shallow fog for the day with the maximum temperature likely to settle at 17 degrees Celsius.

According to Indian Railways, 20 Delhi-bound trains were delayed due to weather-related conditions.
Due to fog in the capital, rail travel has been consistently affected for the past month. However, there is a notable decrease in the number of train cancellations due to improved railway management.

In December 2022, fog led to the cancellation of 60 trains on travel days. In contrast, in December 2023, only 15 trains were cancelled due to fog. Meanwhile, schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days (till January 12) for students from nursery to Class 5 due to the ongoing cold weather, Education Minister Atishi had announced on Sunday.

Despite severe cold conditions, Delhi continues to grapple with air quality concerns. Air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, with the average AQI in the city recorded as 345.
