NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has taken strong exception to accused persons delaying proceedings and wasting judicial time, sentencing them to stand in court with their hands raised until the day’s work concluded.

Judicial Magistrate First Class Saurabh Goyal at Dwarka Court passed the order in a complaint case where, despite multiple calls, the accused failed to furnish bail bonds as directed earlier.

“Despite waiting and calling the matter twice, the bail bonds were not furnished by the accused persons. For wasting the time of the court, which is in contempt of the order duly promulgated on the last date of hearing, the accused persons are held guilty for contempt of court proceedings and are convicted for the offence. They are directed to stand in the court till the rising of this court with their hands straight in the air,” the judge ordered on July 15.

The court noted that at the last hearing, the accused had been specifically instructed to furnish the necessary bonds, and their failure to comply amounted to contempt.

Further, the bench recorded that even at 11:40 am, one accused, identified as Kuldeep, had not submitted his bond. Kuldeep was consequently remanded to judicial custody for two weeks.

However, at around 12:48 pm, his lawyers approached the court again, stating that the bail bond and surety documents were now available. Upon verifying the documents, the court allowed Kuldeep bail. The court, in its order, noted, “Kuldeep is granted bail upon furnishing bonds of Rs 10,000 each. The required bail bonds have been submitted, duly attested, and accepted.”
