HYDERABAD: With the Andhra Pradesh High Court giving the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) a green signal, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to clear the BPS files within next 15 to 20 days.

The High Court on Monday upheld the GO 901 pertaining to the Building Regularisation Scheme allowing the State government to implement the BPS in the State.

However, the Court has prevented the State government from regularising commercial structures located in residential zones.

In GHMC limits, about 60 per cent of the BPS applications which were found to be in order with required documents will be cleared immediately if the required penal amount is paid already and those who could not pay the full amount will be asked to pay the remaining penal fee by issuing them notices, GHMC Chief City Planner (CCP), Purushotham Reddy told Expresso. Commercial buildings that have come up in residential zones will not be cleared as High Court rejected the particular issue. BPS melas will be organised shortly at all the GHMC Circles to clear the approved files.

Several applicants have paid some 50 per cent of the amount; the remaining would be paid at the time of regularisation, he said.

Meanwhile. GHMC Commissioner S P Singh directed officials to co-ordinate election and as well as BPS work simultaneously on a priority basis.

The GHMC officials have so far raised Rs 292.76 crore, of which 50 per cent has already been paid by the owners. GHMC is expected to raise another Rs 150 crore to Rs 200 crore after regularisations of the structures.

GHMC officials said that under BPS scheme, as many as 2,01,130 applications were received and more than 1,08 lakh applications have been processed. GHMC asked for required papers for 40 per cent of the applications which were not in order.
