Trip to temple turns tragic
HYDERABAD: Five engineering students, who were on their way to offer prayers at a temple on the outskirts of the city, met with an accident leading to the death of one of them and injuring the others. The youngsters rammed their car into a road divider, hit an electric pole which made the vehicle turn turtle and killed one of them instantly.
The accident took place at Bandlaguda under the Narsingi police station limits today morning. According to police, the five youngsters, M Santosh Kumar (20), Dinesh, Varun, Krishna and Raghu, are residents of South End Park at L B Nagar and are studying third year BTech in separate engineering colleges in the city.
Narsingi police said the five students had finished their semester examinations yesterday and were on their way to Chilkur Balaji temple to offer prayers.
“They started in Dinesh’s car and as they reached Bandlaguda around 7.45 a.m., Dinesh tried to overtake a bus. In the process, he lost control over the vehicle and crashed into the road divider. The vehicle went over the divider, hit an electric pole and turned turtle,’’ Narsingi police said.
Santosh, a student of Spoorthy engineering college and who was sitting on the rear seat, suffered injuries on his head and fractures on his neck and hands and died instantly.
Police said the car might have been driven at a high speed as the electric pole which it hit was bent slightly.
Police registered a case under Section 304-A (rash and negligent act leading to death) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by a rash act) against Dinesh and are investigating.
