HYDERABAD: Talks between the autorickshaw unions and state government failed today and 17 auto unions have decided to go ahead with their strike from midnight Tuesday. However, four unions decided not to participate in the strike.

The Auto Parirakshana Porata Samithi, comprising 17 associations and unions like AITUC, IFTU, CITU, Telangana JAC Auto Drivers Association, Auto Owners Association and Twin Cities Auto Owners association, has decided to go ahead with the strike after failing to persuade the government to address its 14 demands. Unions under the banner of the Auto Driverla Ikyakaracharana Samiti (ADIS) decided not to go on strike.

With the strike on, the government has told the RTC to ramp up its bus services and requested South Central Railway to run additional MMTS trains.

Transport minister S Vijayarama Raju said the government was sympathetic to the auto drivers’ problems, including revising of minimum fare from Rs12 to Rs 20. But the decision could only be taken by chief minister K Rosaiah after he returns from Delhi. However, B Venkatesham (AITUC), M Amanullah Khan (TADJAC), Y Kiran (IFTU) and M Dastagir (TCADU) accused the government of doing nothing to solve their problems.

For the last four months, government has been assuring to revise auto fares and establish a welfare board for workers dependent on autos. If the government is sincere in solving problems, they should give it in writing, Venkatesham said.

26 additional MMTS services

In view of the auto strike, SCR will run 26 additional MMTS trains in the twin cities. 10 pairs of MMTS services will run between Secunderabad-Lingampalli and Lingampalli-Secunderabad between 9.30 a.m and 6 p.m, with a frequency of 90 minutes. Similarly, 16 additional MMTS services will run between Secunderabad- Falaknuma and Falaknuma-Secunderabad, between 8 a.m and 6 p.m, with a frequency of 90 minutes.

RTC to run all spare buses

APSRTC has decided to put into operation all its spare buses.

Long-distance buses will pick up passengers in the city. Additional buses will be operated from MGBS and CBS by the respective depot managers to Hayathnagar, Kushaiguda, Mehdipatnam, Secunderabad, Borabanda, KPHB, Patancheru, Jeedimetla, Kondapur and Uppal.
