We are sure you have spotted Owl City’s latest album cover out in stores. Even if you have never heard of this one-man band by Adam Young, you will be sure to recognise the photograph of the Burj Al Arab, Dubai, only one of the most exclusive hotels in the world as the album artwork. Though the original album was released in mid-2009, a deluxe two-disc version, featuring a couple bonus tracks was released earlier this year.

Owl City, or, to be accurate, Adam Young’s music falls into the synthpop category, which basically means that Young himself produced all the music using a synthesizer. The single Fireflies is undoubtedly one of the most popular songs in the album, and for good reason. Its light starry-eyed fluffy electropop melodies and elaborately textured beats exude a feel good vibe that go perfectly with the whimsical, very adolescent lyrics. The rest of the album features very similar music. If My Heart Was A House, a bonus track, is a respectably dreamy love song that teenage girls will love. The Bird And The Worm and Vanilla Twilight are other songs that are worth a listen. The lowest point is the track, Dental Care, a banal and boring song about going to the dentist.

If you liked Fireflies, chances are, you will either love the rest of the album or you will get bored to bits. If you did not like Fireflies, then just walk away from this album.
