HYDERABAD: Depressed over the discord in the one-and-a-half-year-long married life, a Special Police Force constable attempted suicide by shooting himself with a rifle while on duty at Pochamma temple near A-Block of the State Secretariat here on Monday.
He was admitted to a private hospital and his condition is said to be stable.
Ch Rajesh (22), a native of Nellore, had married the girl he loved a year and a half ago but differences cropped up soon between them over domestic matters, sub-inspector Vijay Kumar said.
“Efforts are being made to identify personnel who are emotionally disturbed and to replace them with suitable personnel in sensitive units. The STF director-general visited the place of the incident and the hospital and enquired about the incident,’’ he said.
Police booked the constable under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of IPC and under the Arms Act.
