HYDERABAD: Police on Thursday identified the six persons whose bodies were fished out from a lake in Saroornagar locality. The cops, who  have confirmed that the six persons belonged to the same family, are still unclear about what drove the three women and three children to commit suicide by jumping into the lake and suspect that there were disputes between two of the women and their husbands.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Arunawathi and Swarnawathi among the six had disputes with their husbands--all daily wagers, who are still absconding. Following heated arguments, the husband duo left their house on April 16 night. The doctors have confirmed that it was a case of drowning and we suspect that the deceased committed suicide on the same day, ‘’ said Saroornagar Inspector AVR Narasimha Rao.

The police made some enquiries with persons who knew the family and identified the deceased as Arunawathi and her sisters Swarnawathi and Amarawathi and her three children - Harika, Bhavani and Sravani, all residents of Asifnagar and native of Rudraram village Narayanaghed mandal of Medak district. The family shifted to the city a few years ago. Amarawathi was unmarried and was staying with her sisters.

Inspector said they found the house of the deceased and brought Arunawathi’s mother Anasuya to mortuary for identification. She identified the victims as her daughters and granddaughters. Police also found some mobile numbers and a receipt of a tailoring shop at Asifnagar.  They questioned more than five persons including a nurse and a daily wage contractor.

Talking to the media, Anasuya said her daughters and granddaughters left the house on April 16 night after having heated arguments with  their husbands. Doctors have confirmed that the six died due to drowning.
