HYDERABAD: They walk into marriage functions posing as guests and strike after selecting their target. Cyberabad police on Saturday arrested a gang of eight persons who commit thefts in function halls by sending their minor children. The ‘small’ criminals were experts in theft of gold ornaments from the bride and bridegroom, police said.

The accused are- Ravi and Gajender and juvenile offenders Ankush (13), Shiva (8), Babu (12), Kalu (12), Vipan (12), Rabina (13), who all are residents of Miyapur and natives of Kadiya village in Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh. According to police, the gang members were involved in seven cases and had stolen 70 tola gold and 45 tola silver ornaments. “The gang committed five thefts in Cyberabad and two in Hyderabad during 2011 and 2012. They only targeted function halls where marriages and other functions were organised. They enter the halls as guests and usually snatch gold ornaments from brides and bridegrooms,” Cyberabad police commissioner, Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said. Gold ornaments recovered from the accused are all worth Rs 20 lakh.
