HYDERABAD: With an aim to keep drug peddling on check, especially by foreign nationals and students, city police commissioner AK Khan inaugurated the Anti-Narcotic Cell on Thursday. The cell would be functioning under the Central Crime Station. “The problem of drug menace did not seem to be so serious two years back when the first catch was made.

But with the increase in the number of drug peddling cases, it has grown to dangerous proportions,’’ Khan said.

He said that growing prosperity and lack of monitoring by parents are leading to increase of drug use among the youth.

“Some parents even give Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 2 lakh as pocket money to children,’’ Khan said.
