HYDERABAD: A day after the escape of a suspected thief from Chikkadpally police station, an assistant sub-inspector of police was suspended.

A suspected thief was caught by the watchman of an apartment at Domalguda late on Friday night when he tried to enter the complex.

The suspect was handed over to police by locals and shifted to Chikkadpally police station for questioning.

The ‘thief’ was in an inebriated condition and initially not even in a position to tell his name.

Later, he identified himself as Mirza Ali, an auto driver.

Even as the questioning was going, Mirza gave a slip and escaped.

City police commissioner AK Khan asked the DCP Central Zone Tarun Joshi to submit a report.

Based on the report, Khan gave orders on Sunday suspending the ASI E Venkataiah, holding him responsible for the escape of the suspected thief.

“Additional inspector K Subbarami Reddy, head constable Vali and SHO S Prathap failed in their duties.

Departmental action would be taken against them,’’ Khan said.
