HYDERABAD: Burglars escaped with a booty of Rs 5 lakh from a house even as the shocked inmates watched them fleeing helplessly on Saturday night.

The theft took place in the Snehapuri colony residence of Shankar Reddy, principal of Pragati High School at Ramakrishnapuram.

LB Nagar police said Reddy left the house around 2 p.m on Saturday. Sometime later, his wife along with others also left the house.

Around 8.30 p.m, when the family members returned home and opened the main door, they found two intruders sneaking out of the broken kitchen window. By the time they shouted for help, the intruders scaled the compound wall and fled away, police said.

Police said the thieves opened the iron safe using the keys available there and escaped with 10 tola gold and Rs 2 lakh foreign currency.
