HYDERABAD: A day after being caught and beaten up by locals of Jhirra for maintaining an illicit relationship with a woman, the detective sub-inspector of Asifnagar police station, Mohammed Ishaq was suspended on Monday.

City police commissioner AK Khan also transferred Asifnagar police inspector Mohammed Abdul Jaweed on charges of dereliction of duty in supervision of the police station. Mild tension had prevailed at Jhirra on Sunday night after locals caught the DSI entering the woman's house.

Accusing the DSI of misusing his position, angry residents allegedly beat him up. An inquiry was ordered and based on the report submitted by Asifnagar division assistant commissioner of police T Nagaraj Kumar, the DSI was suspended by the police commissioner. "Prima facie we found evidence against the DSI. He had visited the woman's house earlier too," Khan said.
