HYDERABAD: Valuable documents and other files were gutted in a major fire that took place in mysterious circumstances at a community hall in the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Friday.

A firetender from Filmnagar was requisitioned around 1 pm and it extinguished the flames in an hour. Filmnagar fire officer D Mohan Rao said they were yet to establish the exact reasons for the mishap. NIMS officials constituted a committee to probe the cause of the fire.

Curiously, most of the records were shifted to the community hall from the store room after it was demolished 15 days ago. Police officials do not rule out foul play behind the incident as important records, files and other documents were stored in the building located adjacent to the Millennium Block.

A few persons familiar with the facility might have been involved in the mishap to destroy important files, records and documents, according to some officials of the reputed institute.
