HYDERABAD: In a mishap arising out of negligence of a driver, one person was killed and three others suffered injuries after they were hit by a wooden plank protruding from a DCM van in Kodangal of neighbouring Mahabubnagar district on Thursday morning. Kodangal police said the driver of the DCM van, Shareef (24), did not notice the wooden plank protruding out of the van and drove away leading to the mishap. “The wooden plank was kept in the space between the bottom of the truck and rear wheel and was secured with a latch. The latch gave way and the wooden plank came out three feet out of the vehicle which Shareef did not notice,” police said.

The wooden plank hit a motorist and three other passers-by including a police constable killing one of them. The deceased is the former sarpanch of Kondayapalli village, Anantha Reddy (45). “Anantha Reddy was on his bike along with his 18-year old daughter, Haritha and was hit by the wooden plank. He suffered severe injuries while his daughter escaped with minor bruises,’’ police said. Kodangal police constable Pratap Reddy, Narsamma and Mogulamma suffered fractures on their hand. Police blamed the mishap on Shareef’s negligence and arrested him.
