HYDERABAD: A top Maoist leader from the state, who is holding a key position in the party, was on Thursday arrested by the West Bengal police.

The arrested Sadanala Ramakrishna alias Vinod alias Bhanu holds a key position of chief of the central technical committee of the party.

He is the man responsible for procuring raw material and spare parts and all material necessary for making firearms in the Maoists factories that manufactures fire arms in the forests of Chattisgarh.

''Ramakrishna's arrest is a big blow to the Maoists as he is incharge of manufacturing of arms and ammunition,'' an officer said.

Ramakrishna, aged around 62 years, is a mechanical engineer from NIT, Warangal, previously called Regional Engineering Centre (REC). He hails from Karimnagar district and was working underground for the past 30 years.

According to reports, he along with four others were arrested following a raid on a premises at Central Kolkata.

Police also recovered spare parts of rocket launchers in two bags, and ` 40 lakh in cash.
