HYDERABAD: The Planetary Society of India has issued a statement to all space enthusiasts asking them to watch our for the celestial event of conjunction of Venus with Jupiter today.

The event will see both the planets appear paired in western skies after sunset. Pairing of the Moon with planets is a common monthly feature, however the conjunction of two planets is a rare event.

The two planets will appear in the western direction, as two bright non-twinkling objects. The brighter one will be Venus, whereas the less brighter planet will be Jupiter. They will be visible depending on horizon/location till 9 pm.

The two planets have been seen in the sky moving towards each other in the run up to the date, and after the conjunction, they will slowly move away, Venus in upward direction and Jupiter in the downward.

Those interested, either schools or individuals, can register at www.ournewplanets.com to watch the rare event through a telescope. They will get the chance on first-come-first-serve basis.
