HYDERABAD: Osmania University may conduct the State Eligibility Test (SET) in the last week of June but not in May as announced by deputy chief minister and higher education minister Damodara Rajanarisimha.

The university should conduct the test three months after getting accreditation from the UGC. As they are expecting the accreditation from UGC on March 25, there would be no possibility of conducting the test before June 25.

An expert team from the UGC, which has given the Osmania University in-principle approval to conduct SET, inspected the university on March 6 and studied its preparedness. The team will recommend to the UGC to provide accreditation to OU to conduct the SET if it is satisfied with the preparations.

University officials told Express that the team was satisfied with the preparedness of the university and they were expecting the accreditation on March 25. According to the guidelines, the university will have to conduct the test at least three months after getting the accreditation. That means, it will have to conduct the test after June 25. Also, the university must give at least two months’ time to candidates for preparing the exams after notification. The officials said that they were working hard to conduct the examination in minimum time.Postgraduates who clear the SET are eligible for lectureship, pursuing PhD at state universities and apply for various academic posts.
