HYDERABAD: The CCS police on Tuesday arrested an employee of the Regional Transport Authority here for being involved in vehicle registration scam.

According to the police, Raghavender, a clerk at the RTA office, Khairatabad, registered more than 50 autorickshaws with the same number. He commited the fraud while he was working at the RTA, Secunderabad.

CCS inspector B Pratap Kumar said Trimulgherry RTO Y Satyanarayana Rao lodged a complaint with the police on February 19 against an autorickshaw owner, A Raji Reddy of Ramchandrapuram, that he had secured registration of several new autorickshaws illegally. After conducting a preliminary probe, the Trimulgherry police found that Raji Reddy managed to have 50 autorickshaw registered illegally in connivance with the accused.

‘‘Reddy initially owned five autorickshaws. Taking the assistance of Raghavender, who then worked at the Trimulgherry RTA office, he managed to have 50 more new vehicles registered in his name,’’ the police inspector said.
