HYDERABAD: The weather man was right after all! As predicted, there was some respite from the sweltering heat in the twin cities on Friday afternoon as the heavens opened up, even if it was only for a brief while.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, the temperature dipped by a few degrees.

The sky remained cloudy for the best part of the afternoon and evening though it rained for just a few minutes. There’s more good news. The Met Department forecasts more such showers and overcast conditions in the next couple of days.

“The sudden shower over the city is due to the uprise of wind circulations from Chhattisgarh flowing towards the south of Tamil Nadu across the Telangana region. It resulted in bringing abundant moisture to the region. Rains are also expected in the south Telangana districts over the next couple of days,” Subba Rao, assistant meteorologist at the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre told City Express.

According to him, the change in wind pattern bringing in south-eastern winds over the city and surrounding region instead of regular north-eastern winds has also caused the light showers. The maximum temperature recorded in the city on Friday was 39.6 degrees celsius, which later dropped by atleast 3 degrees post noon.

Terming the rain on Friday afternoon as quite normal in summer, Subba Rao said the first of summer showers are always thick and heavy drops. “Summer itself is not completely established so far. So there is no chance of pre-monsoon showers!” he pointed out.
