Ahead of PM's visit, protests in Hyderabad on Telangana issue

Ahead of Prime MinisterManmohan Singh's visit to the city today, TRS and T-JACleaders launched a stir over the Telangana statehood demand.

A group of pro-Telangana activists, who took out arally and tried to release black balloons in the air nearPeople's Plaza on Necklace Road here, were taken into custodyand a gas cylinder used for filling the balloons was seized,an officer attached to Ramgopalpet police station said.

The activists wanted to release black balloons as amark of protest against the Union Government's "delay" ingranting statehood to Telangana, the officer said.

At Indira Park, TRS legislators, T-JAC, BJP andCongress leaders launched a sit-in wearing black badges.

Telangana Nagara Samithi leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy alsojoined this agitation.

A group of pro-Telangana students also took out arally near Arts College in the Osmania University campusholding black balloons.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to addressthe 11th Conference of Parties to the Convention on BiologicalDiversity (CBD) here this afternoon.
