The Panchayat Raj department on Wednesday cancelled resolutions passed by three village panchayats opposing the merger of Ussainpuram, Unduru and G Ragampet into one municipalilty.

Earlier, district administration of East Godavari proposed the merger of four Gram Panchayats - Ussainpuram, Unduru, Vetlapalem and G Ragampeta - into Samalkot municipality. But the three Gram Panchayats objected and passed resolutions opposing the merger.

The state government examined the objections and found that they were mere apprehensions without any basis or substance.

The decision of merging the surrounding Gram Panchayats into a municipality had been taken in the larger interests of people of the area for their overall development and improvement of public amenities.
