Couple die, daughters hurt as RTC bus hits them

A 40-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife died and their two daughters were hospitalised with serious injuries after an RTC bus hit them while they were crossing the road at Tank Bund here on Saturday.

Police said victims were natives of West Bengal. The couple’s daughters -- Radha (20) and Rithvika (14)-- were admitted to Gandhi General Hospital and their condition is stated to be critical.

At 9.45 pm, Parvesh and his wife Mala, along with their daughters, were crossing the road near Lepakshi on Tank Band when an RTC bus proceeding to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) from Nizamabad, hit them.

“Mala died on the spot while Parvesh died while being shifted to the hospital,” said Gandhinagar inspector B Mohan Kumar. Police officials said the bus driver failed to notice the family crossing and hit them. Both driver and conductor fled the spot.

Police registered a case against the driver under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the IPC.
