Aspiring to become a dancer in films, a 17-year-old boy from Anantapur landed in a juvenile home on Saturday after he made a vain bid to steal money from a bank at Jubilee Hills.
The boy, a native of Kadiri, came to Hyderabad on March 13. He met many professionals at various film studios, seeking a break. But, he was advised that he needed dance lessons to hone up his skills.
He ran of money he had brought from home in a few days and spent nights on the pavements. But, he decided not to return home.
He hatched a plan of stealing money from bank to afford his dance lessons.
On Friday evening, he walked into the Jubilee Hills branch of Andhra Bank posing himself as a customer. He hid himself in a toilet when no one was noticing, waiting for the officials to leave the premises after duty. After the employees locked the bank, the boy came out from the toilet.
He searched all the drawers, desks for money but in vain. Being frustrated, the boy again went to the bathroom and slept there. However, his act was caught in the CCTVs installed inside the bank.
On Saturday, when the staff arrived at the bank, they found all the drawers open and the files scattered on the desks.
After some employees noticed that the toilet was locked from inside, they peeped through the ventilator and found the teenager sleeping inside.
They called up the police. “The boy initially said that he developed convulsions and fainted in the toilet but his act was caught on the CCTV camera,’’ the police said, adding that the boy was sent to a juvenile home at Saidabad.
