Keesara temple committee chairman cheated of Rs 1 lakh

Posing as a personal assistant to the chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), a man has duped the Keesaragutta temple chairman by collecting Rs 1 lakh from him.

Though the incident had taken place two days ago, it came to light on Friday when the victim, Narayana Sarma, approached  deputy commissioner of police (Malkajgiri)  V Siva Kumar and lodged a complaint.

According to the victim, a man, claiming his name as Raju, had telephoned him two days ago and introduced himself as personal secretary to the TTD chairman. “Raju requested me stating that his relatives were travelling in a train and they needed Rs 1 lakh cash immediately. He urged me to hand over the money to his relatives at the Secunderabad railway station,’’ Sarama said.

As per Raju’s request, Sarma went to the railway station and gave Rs 1 lakh in cash to a person as requested. Later, Sarma grew suspicious and called back the number from which Raju had called him up. When Sarma made the call, some one answered it and replied that it was a landline phone. Acting on the complaint, police registered a cheating case.
