Barring a scuffle between two groups at Hussain Sagar and a person getting electrocuted at Chandrayangutta, Ganesh procession progressed peacefully in Hyderabad and Cyberabad limits.

However, the heavy rain that lashed in the city affected immersion of idols in various lakes, including Hussain Sagar. Cranes from no 1 to 4 were stalled due to waterlogging.

With water everywhere, city police asked the CPDCL to stop power supply temporarily at a few places near Begum Bazar as a precautionary measures.

Mild tension prevailed at Charminar when police stopped power supply and switched off the loud speakers of Bhagyanagar Utsav Committee when prayers took place in the vicinity. Later, police restored power and the committee members continued giving directions to procession organisers.

Around 1.10 pm, there was heavy rush at Charminar with a number of Ganesh idol processions reaching the place. Most of the road stretches were decorated with saffron flags and festoons.

City police commissioner Anurag Sharma, who conducted aerial survey using a chopper, told Express that the immersion of idols went off peacefully. As many as 2,300 police forces were deployed at a number of places to prevent untoward incidents. By 8 pm, 40 percent of idol immersion was completed at Hussain Sagar. A police team kept watching the situation from the control room through Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs).

In Cyberabad limits, Ganesh idol immersion went off peacefully. “As many as 2,500 idols were immersed at various lakes in Cyberabad by 7.45 pm. Due to heavy rain, the immersion process was delayed and it will conclude by Thursday morning. Heavy force was deployed at all lakes and special teams formed to prevent untoward incidents,” said CV Anand, Cyberabad police commissioner.

A 35-year-old person travelling in a truck carrying Ganesh idol got electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire at a truck. Police shifted him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. At Hussain Sagar, two groups clashed over a petty issue. Police dispersed them from the place.
