Two youngsters, who allegedly raped a Dalit girl, captured the crime on a phone and blackmailed her, were arrested with the help of women’s organisations at Narsaraopet on Friday. The accused, Y Sanjeeva Reddy of Bukkarayasamudram, Anantapur district and K Sivakumar of Phirangipuram, Guntur district, were caught redhanded following a complaint from the girl. According to DSP D Venkatarami Reddy, Narasaraopeta rural police station, the duo are room-mates. While Reddy is a degree first-year student, Sivakumar is preparing for CA. Reddy had been seeing the girl, a native of Nakirekal village and a degree first-year student, for some time. Though in different colleges, the two were friendly. Reddy invited her to his room recently and allegedly raped her along with his roommate. They captured the crime on a mobile and threatened to circulate the video if she didn’t cough up `5,000. Later, they demanded `30,000. The girl mustered enough courage to contact women’s organisations. The latter caught the two red-handed when they arrived at a bus-stop to collect the `30,000. The police booked a case against the duo under the SC/ST Atrocity (Prevention) Act and the Nirbhaya Act
