Planning to make the most of discounts by purchasing gold on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya? Beware, for you may even get fleeced in the rush. Oficials of the legal metrology warned that many jewellers may have a few tricks up their sleeves to pinch the pockets of unnoticing customers.

Over the last few months, sleuths of the metrology have booked numerous cases against jewellery shops for various offences during sale of their products. “The most common thing is to weigh the gold without removing the stones from it. The loss will be in the form of receiving lesser gold than you pay for. This and unsealed machines may be a big cause of concern,” stated an official.

Previously too, the department had seized various unsealed machines from jewellers who caliberated machines on their own and were cheating customers by showing them lesser weight of their gold they wanted to sell.

“It is advisable that people check whether the machines are sealed or not. Otherwise, there is a chance that they sell or buy gold which will be weighed on a faulty machine,” cautioned an official.
