Bride, 4 others killed at wedding party

It was a happy occasion for Y Rama Rao’s family as his daughter Y Lata was to get married. All preparations were in place but the celebrations soon turned into a tragedy after Rama Rao lost control of the lorry he was driving and crushed Lata along with three other persons to death.

The incident occured at Ramannagudem village of Aswaraopeta mandal of Khammam district on Thursday.

According to the Aswaraopeta circle inspector, Sampathkumar, the marriage of Y Lata (20) of the Sunnapuralla village of T Narsapuram  mandal of West Godvari was fixed with Nara Mangaraju of Ramannagudem and the marriage was scheduled to be solemnised on Thursday at 8 am.

Lata’s father Y Rama Rao was working as a lorry driver for the past twenty years and brought all his relatives to the village to attend the marriage at 3 am. The groom’s side welcomed the bride and other relatives with traditional tribal dances and various rituals. Further, the  bride’s sister Guna Kumari (32), nephew Gunja Siva (5), aunt Chuttu Durgamma (45), the bride Lata and other relatives headed to the groom’s house on foot, with Rama Rao following them with his lorry.

When the relatives were busy dancing to the tunes of the marriage band party, Rama Rao lost control over the vehicle and crushed the bride, Kumari, Siva and Durgamma. A case has been registered.
