HMDA plans to lay bicycle tracks, footpaths in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has asked the LEA Associates-India who are preparing a comprehensive transportation study (CTS) for Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA) to identify four major stretches for implementation of Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) having continuous side-walks (pedestrians/footpaths) and bicycle tracks.

A meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of HMDA metropolitan commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad here where the working group discussed with the consultants the various issues relating to planning and regulation, legal, engineering, enforcement and coordination.

The state government has constituted two working groups under the chairmanship of metropolitan commissioner for formulation of NMT and parking policy in coordination with CTS consultants and also to identify specific projects for implementation in Hyderabad area. The CTS taken up on behalf of HMDA to suggest solutions for transportation issues has underscored the need to promote bicycling.

Based on the discussion, the CTS consultants were directed to prepare a policy for NMT and parking.
