HYDERABAD: Going to endless coaching classes, studying for hours together solving multiple mock tests is a conundrum every IIT-JEE aspirants faces. As someone who seemed to be spending most of his time commuting to coaching classes and test centres for giving mock tests, Angad Nadkarni decided to do something about it.

He came up with the idea of Examify which in essence seeks to help students by providing them with result-oriented exam-preparation tools in order to improve their performance. “What Examify does is use an algorithm to dig through old question papers and see which are the most probable questions. Our aim is to help every student get an equal chance of doing well in the examination,” says Angad who is currently studying computer science at BITS Pilani Hyderabad. For someone with a keen interest in web designing and server security, Angad was all of 13 when he met IndiaGames founder, Vishal Gandola for a freelance project. The encounter proved to be fruitful as Gandola helped him with the pre-incorporation funding to jumpstart Examify in 2013.

Mentored by educationist Anand Kumar, the Examify core team has managed to bridge the gap that often exists between students and similar websites in the e-learning domain. “Generally, the team behind such portals are made up of engineers who decide the content. However, we spoke to many IITians and teachers in colleges as well as coaching classes to get their inputs before launching the tests. The aim was to avoid the time spent on going through the entire book and instead identify the most probable questions in the chapters. This way, the students don’t have to solve the same question endlessly,” comments Angad.

He also expresses his appreciation for the teachers’ contribution to the portal. “Speaking to the teachers helped us a lot as we understood how to create questions which are more unique and the order in which they should be lined up so that the difficulty level gradually goes up without overwhelming the students,” he explains.

At present, the site focuses only on IIT-JEE where one can take a mock test that lets one compare their performance in terms of right answers and time taken with the rest of the users on the platform.

“The aspirants can also track their individual progress through analytical graphs. The website also offers small sets of questions called ‘Sprints’ that aspirants can solve using their mobile phones,” adds the 20-year-old.

Most of the mock tests are free but they do offer tests priced at `1000 for 20 papers for the IIT-JEE mains and an additional `1000 for the advanced level.
