HYDERABAD: Taking a step towards women’s safety, the state transport department held talks with autorickshaw union members on Tuesday. To keep a track of auto drivers, officials asked the unions to inform them of details such as transfer of vehicle ownership, drivers and complete personal details like phone number and address.
The initiative follows the recommendations made by a committee formed by the state government on the safety and security of women and girls.
It is learnt that the auto union members did not readily agree to the proposals. “They made several demands like a cut in insurance premium and a ban on seven-seater autos,” said T Raghunath, joint commissioner of transport.“When owners sell their vehicles without transferring the ownership, it becomes difficult to trace the auto owner,” he said.
