No word from EC Yet on Use of EVMs for SCB Polls

HYDERABAD: Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials, who are hoping to conduct elections through electronic voting machines for the first time, are still waiting for a response from the Election Commission.

Notification for Cantonment Board elections was released in November first week and officials have completed preparation of electoral rolls. There are more than 1,60,000 voters in SCB and officials had submitted a proposal to the EC to conduct the elections using EVMs.

Elections will be held on January 11 and contestants have to file nominations on December 11 and 12. Though nominations dates are nearing, SCB officials are expressing doubts over conduct of elections through EVMs.

Returning officer T Vittal said there would be a clarity on whether elections will be held with EVMs or ballot papers in a week as EC officials may take a decision by then.
