Stone to be Laid for Shopping Mall in Chanchalguda Jail Soon

HYDERABAD: In addition to the correctional services and education imparted to prisoners in the state, the department of Prisons and Correctional Services has decided to aggressively market their products.

As a major step, a foundation stone for a shopping arcade adjoining the Chanchalguda prisons would be laid on December 13. Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday,  director general of prisons and correctional services Vinoy Kumar Singh said that the shopping mall would be a two-storeyed structure with around 40 shops.

The construction of the building is expected to be completed in 3 years. Two acres of land adjoining the prison has been earmarked for the purpose and PPP model is being considered.

Similarly, about a month ago, the department has also hired a social media and online advertising expert to advertise the products from prisons.  “Our prisoners have been producing a variety of products but we do not have a market to sell them. To compete with private players and sell them through regular stores is difficult.
