Huge Quantity of Illegal Sand Seized

HYDERABAD:  Revenue and police officials of Gajwel seized a huge quantity of illegally mined sand worth around ` 20 lakh at Ahmedipur village on Sunday. Officials believe that as many as 1,300 dump tractors would be required to remove the sand.

The seizure brought out the laborious effort of 35 people involved in illegally mining sand from Kudavelli rivulet, as Gajwel Tehsildar G Bal Reddy said that the process of accumulating the sand might as well be going on from many months.

“They did not take any permission for sand mining. The sand was dumped in different locations of the village and farm lands, and it was planned to be sold,” Bal Reddy said. However, he added that action against the people involved in this will be taken only after consulting higher officials.

Based on information, the officials raided the dump site and seized the sand. Decisions about whether the sand would be shifted from the sites and would be  auctioned, will be taken in coming days
