Sania's Bond Affair

Dressed in a white gown, Sania Mirza cut a very pretty figure at a promotional event held in the city and she got talking about her acting, upcoming autobiography and International Premier Tennis League.

HYDERABAD: A self proclaimed avid fan of James Bond movies, the tennis star has tied up with Sony PIX to train guys on how to woo girls a la James Bond style. Set to be a series of advertising capsules, she will be seen as a teacher at the PIX school of Bonding which has already gotten a quite a bit of mileage on social media.

The tennis player, who is basking in her win at the WTA Finals with doubles partner Zimbabwean Cara Black says, the campaign came at the right time. “I was first surprised when it came to me and it was only after I understood the concept that I decided to take it up. It also came at the right time as my season had gotten over. I had some time to myself so I thought let’s give it a try as it’s a different experience,” says Sania. Talking about what attracted her to the campaign, she explains, “When you think of James Bond, you think of an icon. You think of action, goodlooking people, cool gadgets. All those things interest me.”

Though she has done advertising campaigns before, Mirza still felt nervous on the first day of the shoot. “It was a three to four day shoot. Initially on the first day I had to adapt a little bit as there is some acting involved but after that it was smooth. The directors were also very patient with me as I took quite a few retakes in the beginning but the team made it very easy,” adds Sania who maintains that she has no plans of acting in any film industry. “I’m not going to act in any ‘wood’ as I feel very shy to act,” laughs Sania. The Tennis Ace was in her element and deftly stirred a scribe’s leading question about the remuneration she received for the campaign and went on to question him, “How much do you make every month?” to which he had no answer.

The 28-year-old is also working on her autobiography and says, “The book is undergoing final edits and will be out soon. We have written till 2012 end. I just need to add a bit more information about the two years 2013 to 2014. A lot has happened off and on the tennis court. So all that needs to be written down. It’s all about the timing so I just have to get down to writing it. But it should be ready by next year hopefully.”

With 2014 being a good year for Sania, the tennis sensation is now looking forward to the International Premier Tennis League(IPTL) which starts on November 27. “It’s going to be a new experience playing in the IPTL as well. I hope 2015 also turns out to be a good year for me.”
